The Analysis of Prisoner and Dilemma Game Theory

The Prisoners’ Dilemma can also be inverted to have the leader, who is always the prisoner, framed as the culprit.

In the dictator game, each player plays the role of a leader, and all actions are governed by game theory. Unlike the prisoner’s dilemma, the outcome of a dictator game is not primarily driven by an interest in personal gain. Rather, all players share a single objective, and that is to eliminate all the other players before reaching the final outcome. Although a dictator game may appear to offer little in the way of real interaction, it is this lack of physical contact that makes it distinct from its cousin the prisoner’s dilemma.

Economic models, on the other hand, are more physical and require interaction among at least two players. However, economic games, like the dictator game, lack the subtlety of emotional play. In general, economic games involve a couple of individuals who compete with one another for resources, goods, and money. Each person has an overall aim, which may be to accumulate more wealth, create a competitive edge over other people, or expand their personal empires. Money is used in these games to purchase these goods and services. The overall result is the extent of control over the economy of the game system.

These games can be analyzed using the prisoner and dictator game theory. Each aspect of the system, including the variables mentioned above, can be analyzed separately, or all aspects may be combined. A significant analysis will focus on how each individual may be able to exert influence on the outcome of the game. This will provide a valuable guide as to how a society might best handle a situation where collective action may be required.
